It's party time!

The end of year is full of celebrations: winter feasts, the solstice, Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, New Years, and of course the arrival of Teeny Zeeny 13, Things at a Party! However you celebrate this winter, I hope your holiday time is cozy and festive.

Some of our favorite party traditions have been around for thousands of years. Ancient Egyptians wore conical hats at banquets and special occasions. Noisemakers have traditionally been used to chase away evil spirits. Ancient Greeks used to throw celebratory confetti made of leaves, twigs, and flowers. While we may never exactly know why these traditions began, continuing them helps root us in the long history of partying together.

Speaking of parties, New Year's Eve is right around the corner! A new year brings longer days, higher hopes, and maybe a resolution or two. Teeny Zeeny is wishing you all the best in 2022.

This month's enclosure...

In the late 1880s a "donkey party" craze swept Milwaukee, Wisconsin, thanks to a new game called Pin the Tail on the Donkey. The game proved so universally appealing to kids that it spread across the nation and is still played today.

Use this month's enclosure to host some animal party games of your own! First match each tail to the animal you think it belongs to. Then attach the animals to the wall, close your eyes, and try to place the tail in the right spot. Bonus points if you spin around a time or two first!
